"Hubristic Euphoria" Original Oil Painting
This painting is of Icarus from the popular Greek story. Many people tell the tail as a cautionary warning not to aim to high in fear of getting burned but ignore the second half of the story. They skip over the pare where Daedalus warns Icarus to no fly to low either fear that he would consumed by the ocean waves.
It was quite a few years ago now that the poem commonly know as "Icarus laughed as he fell" by Fiona became very popular on social media. I instantly fell in love with the poem, and it was that very poem that inspired me to pain Icarus in such a way: embracing the sun, as the last of his feathers melt away with a smile moments before he falls.
